Buy Camel Skin Lamps UK – Hand-Painted, Free UK Delivery

Buy a camel skin lamp and you bring home a light no one else has. Each of our camel skin lamps is handmade in Pakistan, where the hide is shaped by hand, dried until it turns translucent, and painted by skilled artisans in the Naqashi style that the city of Multan made famous. Switch one on and the painted skin glows a warm amber, casting its pattern softly across the room. Our UK collection runs from small bedside and table lamps to tall floor and corner lamps, and because every lamp is painted by hand, each design exists only once. Free UK delivery, and we ship across Europe.

Camel Skin Table & Bedside Lamps

A camel skin table lamp is the most popular way to bring this craft home. Our tower, mushroom and vase-shaped table lamps stand around 40 to 55 cm tall, so they sit comfortably on a bedside table, sideboard, console or desk. As a camel skin bedside lamp, the soft amber glow is gentle enough to wind down by, and many people keep one on low as a night lamp.

Camel Skin Pendant & Ceiling Lamps

A camel skin pendant lamp hangs from the ceiling and spreads its painted glow overhead, which suits a dining table, a hallway or a reading nook. Our hanging camel skin ceiling lamps take the same standard E27 bulb as the rest of the range.

Camel Skin Floor & Corner Lamps

A camel skin floor lamp lights a room from the ground up. Our tallest illuminated vase floor lamps stand over 80 cm, made to fill an empty corner or sit beside a sofa or armchair, where they give ambient light and act as a statement piece at once. As a camel skin corner lamp, it brings warmth to a part of the room that usually stays dark.

Calligraphy Camel Skin Lamps

Calligraphy is a classic Naqashi design. A calligraphy camel skin lamp carries flowing Arabic script hand-painted across the skin, so the words glow when the lamp is lit. These Islamic calligraphy lamps make a meaningful gift for Eid, Ramadan, a new home or a wedding, and each is painted only once.

Shop Camel Skin Lamps by Type

Every lamp in our collection is hand-painted camel skin on a pine wood base. What changes is the shape, the height and where it works best, so start with the spot you have in mind.

What is a camel skin lamp?

A camel skin lamp, sometimes called a camel leather lamp, is a lamp whose shade is made from camel hide that has been shaped, dried and painted by hand. Once dry, the hide is firm and thin enough to let light through, so the whole lamp glows from within instead of sending light only downwards like a fabric shade.

The craft belongs to Multan, in southern Punjab, where it has been passed down through families of artisans, and it’s what Pakistani camel skin lamps are known for. Its painting style, known as Naqashi, uses fine floral, geometric and calligraphic patterns, often in gold, blue, red and green. The result is part lamp, part painted object: as striking on a shelf in daylight as it is lit up in the evening. No two are quite the same, because no two hides and no two painters ever are.

How our camel skin lamps are made

A camel skin lamp is slow work, and no machine can copy it. The hide is cleaned and soaked until it softens, then stretched by hand over a mould that gives the lamp its shape: a tall tower, a round globe, a vase or a crescent. It’s left to dry until it sets hard, and the mould is taken out.

Then the painting begins. Working freehand, the artist outlines the design and fills it in colour by colour, building up hours of fine brushwork on a single lamp. It’s then set on a pine wood base and wired for a standard E27 bulb. Because each stage is done by hand, small differences in shape and pattern are part of the lamp, not faults.

Choosing the right camel skin lamp

Once you know where the lamp will go, a few things decide which one is right.

Height. Our lamps run from compact pieces around 40 cm tall to floor lamps over 80 cm, and each product page lists the exact height, so measure the spot before you choose.

Colour. Pick a palette that echoes something already in the room, such as a blue that picks up a rug or cushion, or choose a multicolour design to be the room’s focal point.

One or a pair. A pair either side of a bed or sofa looks deliberate, but because every lamp is painted by hand, two will never be identical. Two lamps in the same colour family usually work best.

Design and glow. Densely painted designs give a deeper, moodier glow; lighter designs with more open skin let more light through and feel brighter.

Not sure which one suits your room? Get in touch and we’ll help you choose.

Styling camel skin lamps at home

A decorative camel skin lamp looks its best where its pattern can be seen. Let it be the one decorative piece on a simple sideboard, or group two of different heights on a console for a warmer, layered look. The amber glow sits naturally with wood, rattan, brass and earthy colours, which is why these lamps suit boho and eclectic rooms so well, though a single lamp in a pared-back modern space is just as striking. Pair one with a [kilim cushion cover] for a room that feels handmade throughout.

And because each design is one of a kind, a camel skin lamp makes a memorable housewarming, wedding or Eid gift.

Why buy your camel skin lamp from us

Buying a camel skin lamp from a UK shop makes it simple: you pay in pounds, to a London-based business, with UK delivery and returns. We don’t make the lamps ourselves. We work with skilled artisans in Pakistan who make them by hand, the traditional way, and our designs are available only through us.

Delivery and returns are free across the UK, and we ship to Europe with postage and any duties shown at checkout. Each lamp is the only one of its design, so the one you choose won’t turn up in someone else’s living room. Our customers rate us 4.79 out of 5 in independently verified reviews.

Camel skin lamp FAQs

Is this real camel skin?

Yes. Every shade is made from camel skin membrane, shaped and painted by hand, and set on a pine wood base. You can see it in the slight unevenness of the surface and the natural texture that shows through when the lamp is lit.

What bulb should I use in a camel skin lamp?

An LED bulb. It stays cool, which keeps heat off the painted skin, and a warm white (around 2700K) gives the classic amber glow. Every lamp takes a standard E27 screw-fit bulb, which isn’t included.

How do I clean a camel skin lamp?

Switch it off, let it cool, and dust it with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. Avoid water, sprays and cleaning products, which can mark the paint.

Can I use a camel skin lamp as a floor or corner lamp?

Yes. Most of our camel skin lamps work as table, bedside, corner or floor lamps, and the taller vase designs, at over 80 cm, are made to stand on the floor. Each product page shows the height, so you can see where a lamp will sit best.

Where are your camel skin lamps made?

In Pakistan, hand-painted by skilled artisans in the traditional Naqashi style that Multan is known for. We bring them to the UK and send them out from London.

Can I order a custom design or size?

Yes, in the size and design you want. Get in touch or use our customisation form and we’ll tell you what’s possible and how long it would take.

Are camel skin lamps ethically sourced?

The camel skin is a by-product of camel farming, so the craft makes use of material that would otherwise go to waste. Buying one also supports the artisans who keep this tradition alive.

Buy Your Camel Skin Lamp Before It’s Gone
